歌舞伎の舞台に暫や鳴神に代表される荒事を取り入れ、人気を博した初代市川團十郎。跡継ぎに恵まれなかった團十郎は、成田山新勝寺で子授けを祈願し続け待望の長男を授かりました。
お不動さまへの感謝を表し、不動明王をテーマにした初めての歌舞伎「兵根元曽我(つわものこんげんそが)」は盛況を博し、その感謝を込めて成田山に大神鏡を奉納しました。
これを機に市川家は、「成田屋」の屋号を使うようになったのです。

The first Ichikawa Danjuro gained popularity by incorporating “Aragoto” represented by “Shibaraku” and “Narukami” into the Kabuki stage. He was not blessed with a succession, continued to pray for a child at Naritasan Shinshoji Temple and was given the long-awaited eldest son.
“Origin of the Soga Warrior (Tsuwamono Kongen Soga)” with the theme of Fudo Myoo to express their gratitude to him was a big hit. Danjuro made an offering of a large sacred mirror to Naritasan.
Taking this opportunity, the Ichikawa family began to use the name “Naritaya”.

市川團十郎家と成田山新勝寺は、江戸元禄以来、成田山不動尊信仰の絆で結ばれており、節目ごとに成田山への参詣を重ねてきました。 初代團十郎はたびたび不動明王を演じ、成田屋の屋号もその頃から始まったものとされています。 團十郎が演じるお不動様を見た江戸の町民が、こぞってご当地の成田山を訪れるようになり、やがて門前町が形成されていきます。 そうした日本文化の伝統の地で、十三代目市川團十郎丈をブランドアドバイザーとして、「和空 成田山門前」が新たなる門出を迎えました。

The Ichikawa Danjuro family visited Naritasan at every turning point in their family history.
The first Danjuro often played Fudo Myoo, and the name "Naritaya" was born around that time. The townspeople of Edo, who saw the Fudo-sama played by Danjuro, began to visit the Naritasan in droves, and a temple town was formed before long.
